An Taoiseach Michaél Martin (Prime Minister of Ireland) visits Carne Luxembourg

25 July 2025

On Thursday, June 24th 2025, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin (Prime Minister of Ireland) began a two-day state visit to Luxembourg where he met with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, to discuss key economic issues facing both countries such as European competitiveness and EU-US trade negotiations.

During his visit, the Taoiseach also spent time with Irish businesses in Luxembourg and Irish community representatives, speaking about the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.

Carne had the honour of welcoming the Taoiseach, the Ambassador of Ireland to Luxembourg, Jean McDonald, representatives from Enterprise Ireland, and distinguished guests to our offices as part of the visit. The meeting was a great opportunity for Carne to engage in meaningful discussions around the key trends and topics shaping the asset management industry in Luxembourg, Ireland, and globally.

Key talking points with the Taoiseach:

21 years of partnership and possibilities – This year, Carne is celebrating 21 years in business, and almost two decades in Luxembourg. The visit provided an opportunity to share Carne’s growth journey that has led us to reach this exciting milestone.

United in purpose – Both domiciles share common interests and strategic goals but remain distinct in identity and competitive positioning. This serves to benefit a comprehensive product and service offering for investment managers and their clients.

Positioning for growth – The unique offerings of both domiciles within the European market and global asset management industry support job creation and have led to the establishment of some of the region’s largest technology hubs.

What’s next – Finally, we had a very engaging conversation about remaining pro-active and driven to deliver new solutions to the market. The continued focus across the political spectrum, industry bodies, and firms is needed to ensure no complacency. Ireland and Luxembourg are well positioned to strengthen the EU economy by supporting initiatives such as the Savings & Investment Union.

The Taoiseach also spent time touring our office, chatting with our colleagues, who represent a variety of different cultures and backgrounds, including those with first-hand experience living and working in Luxembourg and Ireland.

This visit was a tremendous success, and we look forward to welcoming the Taoiseach and Ambassador of Ireland to Luxembourg back to our offices in the near future.
