Carneversation with Thibault Ferveur

May 2025
At Carne Group, our incredible team members are our greatest asset. This month we sat down for a “Carneversation” with Thibault Ferveur, a Senior Associate from our Risk team and one of our brave cyclists taking on the Velocity 2025 charity cycle. He discusses his career, his inspirations, and the importance of appreciating the journey
Q: Can you tell us about your role at Carne, and what drew you to that part of the business? *
A: As a Senior Associate in Risk Management, I’m essentially a professional paranoid, but in the best way possible! I help our clients navigate the complex regulatory landscape while ensuring their funds maintain appropriate risk frameworks. What pulled me into risk management was discovering I could put my tendency to ask, ‘but what if?’ to good use. My position offers a great balance between analytical problem-solving and practical application. The alternative investment space in Luxembourg is dynamic and diverse, which means I’m constantly learning something new. What I appreciate most about working at a third-party AIFM like Carne is the variety – each client brings unique challenges that keep me on my toes and prevent the job from ever feeling routine.
Q: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
A: The most rewarding part of my job is turning what clients often see as boring compliance paperwork into a valuable business tool they get excited about. There’s this lightbulb moment that is particularly satisfying when helping a client spot a potential issue before it becomes a problem or identify opportunities they might have missed. I enjoy the collaborative process of working with different stakeholders to develop risk approaches that are both robust and practical. It’s that sweet spot where regulatory requirements meet business reality – finding solutions that satisfy both sides of that equation gives me a real sense of accomplishment. Plus, there’s never a dull moment when you’re juggling multiple fund structures and investment strategies!
Q: Which of Carne’s values resonates with you the most?
A: I’ve been torn between two of Carne’s values that really speak to me – thoughtfulness and tenacity.
Thoughtfulness resonates because I’ve always believed that taking time to consider different perspectives leads to better outcomes, whether that’s in risk management or personal
relationships. My friends joke that I’m the one asking, “but have we thought about this or that…?” when we’re planning anything.
But tenacity is equally important in my life – I’m not someone who gives up easily, whether I’m tackling a challenging situation in work, trying a new recipe, or pushing through the final kilometres of a bike ride. If I had to choose one, I’d probably lean toward thoughtfulness, because I believe that initial careful consideration creates the foundation for everything else, though my stubborn persistence usually makes an appearance too!
Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?
A: The most influential person in my life has been my grandfather. I think what makes him remarkable is his approach to life – he has this perfect balance of curiosity, patience, and genuine warmth that draw people to him. He is a remarkably skilled fisherman so he’s the one who taught me that patience often brings the greatest rewards. Our fishing trips are some of my most treasured memories – setting out on the boat before day light, his tackle box organized in a system only he fully understood. What made these outings special wasn’t actually the fishing itself, but the perspectives he shared while we waited for a bite. Some days we’d return home with nothing for dinner, having to explain to the family that the fish just weren’t biting, but those ‘unsuccessful’ trips were often the most memorable. Whenever I find myself too focused on outcomes and results, I think of those peaceful mornings on the water, where success was measured in moments, not metrics.
Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
A: If I could have one superpower, it would definitely be teleportation. As someone who loves to travel and explore new places, the ability to instantly transport myself anywhere would be incredible! I could have breakfast in Luxembourg, lunch on a Mediterranean beach, and dinner in Tokyo – all while avoiding airport security lines and cramped airplane seats. I’d use it to visit friends and family scattered across different countries without the planning and travel time that usually limits those visits. Plus, I’d never be late for anything again, which would shock everyone who knows me.
Q: What inspired you to participate in the Velocity charity cycle event?
A: I joined the Velocity cycle event because it combines two things I genuinely care about: staying in shape and supporting meaningful causes. I’ve been cycling recreationally all my life and more seriously for the past year for my first triathlon in just a few weeks from now. Cycling is my favorite way to explore the countryside on weekends – so when this opportunity came up, it felt like a natural fit. What really clinched it for me was the fundraising aspect of it all. It’s great to think that all of your donations will provide essential services to vulnerable kids.
There’s something powerful about knowing each kilometer pedaled will translate to real support for children who need it. Plus, I’ve discovered that training with colleagues I normally only see in meetings has been great fun – there’s nothing like struggling up a steep hill together to build connections beyond the usual office small talk!
Q: What are you most looking forward to during the event?
A: Having experienced the incredible energy of charity sport events during a half marathon a few months ago, I’m looking forward to that same special atmosphere on two wheels instead of two feet. That run, which helped us raise almost 3000 euros for cancer research, showed me how these events create this perfect blend of personal challenge and collective purpose. The cycling route will take us through parts of France I haven’t explored yet, which adds another layer of excitement. What I’m most anticipating, though, is that unique camaraderie that develops when you’re struggling alongside others for a good cause – there’s nothing quite like the mix of exhaustion, humour, and shared determination that happens around the midpoint of these events! And I won’t lie – I’m definitely looking forward to that moment when we cross the finish line together, knowing we’ve accomplished something meaningful both physically and for Save the Children.
