John Ackerley

John has over 30 years’ of leadership experience in the global financial services industry, with expertise spanning the Cayman Islands, Ireland, and Dubai. Renowned for his deep knowledge of investment fund structures and strategies, he has worked with an extensive range of fund types, including hedge, private equity, hybrid, real estate, private credit, and private debt funds, as well as complex special purpose vehicles across jurisdictions worldwide.

With a strong foundation in audit, accounting, and fund administration, John has been a trusted professional director and fiduciary since 2004. Since joining Carne in 2011, he has served as the Cayman Islands Country Head and CEO, driving the firm’s Cayman operations and reinforcing the firm’s reputation in North America as a leader in fiduciary and governance services.

Previously, John held senior roles at Maples Finance in the UAE, The Harbour Trust Co., Bank of America, and Butterfield Fund Services (now part of MUFG). He began his career in audit in Dublin, Ireland. He holds an honours degree from University College Dublin and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. A qualified Trust and Estates Practitioner, he is a former Executive Committee member of the Cayman Chapter of AIMA.
